I found the Sofft Mackenna to be a very comfortable sandal for walking, especially in Italy.
I found the most adorable pair pink Taos Trulies after reading this article. They are so comfortable and have great support while still being cute.
When walking in hot climate our feet often sweat. I find that sandals with the footbed like in the Clarks shoes absorb the sweat and become smelly. It’s also hard to clean, but I know many people also don’t like plastic. I avoid that material but haven’t tried cork. Any thoughts on this?

I refer to this post often! I most recently purchased the Teva Verra Sport Sandal for Puebla, Mexico and I love them!
I bought the NOAT sandals on the recommendation of this post for my summer trip to Great Britain and Paris and they did not disappoint! I did need to break them in at home first by wearing them on walks a few times to allow the sole to mould to my feet, but after that I was able to walk all day in them while I was on tour. I’m a stickler for style and normal wear something with a wedge or heel but these met my standards and with the brown/black color they go with everything. Highly recommend!
I used to be able to walk all day (20,000 steps at universal) in Keens. But, as I have gotten older, I need more squish in the heels…maybe they are just worn down? But there are some great options above to try – just got a pair of Skechers that I am loving. Thank goodness for Amazon try before you buy!
The Blowfish Granola sandals are fantastic. I got them for a trip to Colombia and wore them regularly. Now that I’m home I wear them all the time as a teacher (in Florida). They don’t take up much space, feel secure on my feet, and handle the rain well. They are great for traveling.
So many to choose from! I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Ecco Flowt or Chacos.
Sketchers Brilliancy 600 sandals are amazing! So lightweight and the beige color goes with everything. I have 2 colors! Recommend sizing down.
My daughter bought me the black Naot Kayla sandals for my birthday. I absolutely love them. They are so comfortable and versatile. I can wear them with shorts, skirts, and dresses. They even look great when I want to dress up.
SAS ‘relaxed’ walking sandals are my favorite for support, cushiness, and no rubbing. I think the Amber leather is less ‘old lady support shoe-looking’ than some of the other colorways.

I swear by the Taos Gift 2 sandals! I have terrible feet. These sandals are super comfortable with plenty of support. They come in lots of colors including metallics (I have pewter) which dress them up a bit.

Another great brand for walking sandals is Abeo. In June we traveled to 8 countries in Europe for 32 days. I wore the Sylvie sandal a lot of days and walked many miles in them. I like a sandal that can be adjusted as some styles will stretch out over time and become loose, which can cause blisters. I never had an issue with these sandals and could wear them with casual attire or dress them up for dinner (the straps are a little “sparkle”) . Sadly this style is sadly no longer available but similar ones can be found that have multiple adjustable straps. I loved wearing sandals with a comfortable dress in the warm climates, it definitely helped me be cooler than closed toe shoes.
Just found some Ecco flowt sandals on Poshmark and am thrilled!

My absolute favorite brands that have taken me from Mexico to Europe are Taos and Naot sandals. They’re so well made and comfortable. I wouldn’t have known about them if it hadn’t been for this site!

This blog is always my fist stop to find anything travel related. When I needed comfortable sandals for an upcoming trip I automatically went to your recommendations. Sure enough I decided on Vionic Kirra which were unlike anything I wore before. Comfortable but stylish! I get compliments on them all the time.

I have been wearing Chacos non-stop for 20 years. I would still be wearing my original pair had my former dog not chewed the strap. They really mean it with their lifetime warranty. and, I wash them with my clothes! Absolute best sandals ever!

Add another vote for the Vionic Kirra. I bought these in rose gold and they were the mainstay of my 2-week trip to Italy and Switzerland this summer. I didn’t wear them for my early morning park walks–or hiking the Flaughorn Trail–but pretty much everything else, all over Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Venice, Interlaken and Zurich. I wore them with pants, shorts, and dresses. They were the only think I could think of putting on my feet after my 15 miles in one day, and they were like a dream. Sadly, I forgot them at my last hotel–so I promptly ordered another pair after I realized that. My only word of caution–which is true for all sandals–is that you might not want to wear them for days of hauling heavy luggage on and off trains. My suitcase kept landing on my toe. I totally would have worn them on the plane back home though – except they pack so well, I chose to wear my more bulky sneakers.

Finn Comfort Gomera sandals. I love these sandals for difficult feet- wider at top and narrow heel. Fully adjustable, come in great colors. Lots of arch support. Love! Also for flip flops Oofos!
I am glad that you are starting to show some more practical shoes for travel. We walk miles and miles each day on a trip and some of the things like ballet flats and sandals definitely do not work for me. And I have a neuroma on my foot that prevents wearing much of a heel (not a flat, but almost) or any sort of pointed toe. I always go comfort shoes: Naot, Mephisto, Beautifeel (more for dress) etc. My biggest problem is finding ones that are great for walking all day, but also look nice with a dress or skirt. I don’t like sneakers. I did a pair of Naot Mary Jane’s and walked all over Paris and they were great! If you could find more that are cute but also hold up to 10+ mile a day, that would be great!

Have you tried the Walking Company? I just found Abeo sandals that supports exactly those kinds of problems. Ended up getting two pairs!
They are super comfy with great support, especially in the “ arch” and toes…which are sadly missing in so many shoes! And very lightweight as
well. They carry all the above brands as well! I bought the “ Goleta” style, but there are many styles, including tennies, and ankle boots.

I searched high and low for a pair of walking sandals for a 2 week trip to central
Europe. My criteria: 1 1/2 -2 inch heel, adjustable straps for instep and ankle, lightweight, easy to walk on cobblestones, must look good with skirts or pants.

I’m going to Aspen, CO in less that 2 weeks and the temperature varies from low 50’s to the mid 80’s. How the heck do I pack for that, especially with shoes? The layering of clothes I have down pat and I have a fold-up/compressible down jacket so I’m all good there.

Travel Fashion Girl, where have you been all my traveling life? I was looking for shoes for my trip to Catalina a few months ago. All I could find was Teva’s in 50 strappy variations. Not this fashion girl. Then I came across your blog– and what a surprise to find so many styles from so many brands. Brands I’ve never heard of, but now a fan of! I bought not one, but three pairs of shoes from this article: a pair of Sofft and 2 pairs of Ecco shoes. I wore them right out of the box, love them all! Just got my Sketchers Brilliance in. They are super comfy. I ordered 3 colors but will stick with the Navy and Black for now. Also ordered the Mirabelle but all they had was the gray and I am not sure it love the color.

These are very comfortable and are my “go to” for walking in warm weather. I have several pair in many colors. I can walk miles in them. One hint: if you haven’t worn a thong sandal in a while, wear a pair around the house for a week or two before you plan on traveling. That way your feet are used to them.

Hello- everyone I am heading to Italy in September 2016, were my husband and I will tend to walk a lot, I am looking for a good support sandal that is stylish. My feet tend to hurt a lot of walking and standing on m feet all day. I also have flat feet. I wore Toms the last time we were in Italy and I went to the doctor when we returned and found out I have plantar fasciitis. This list looks great, but just wanted to see if anyone had any other recommendations. Thank you

If you suffer from plantar fasciitis try Fitflop brand sandals – look for the styles with the ” microwobble board” footbed. They have helped me tremendously!! My left foot had overextended and I had severe pain throughout my arch area – these sandals saved my feet 6yrs ago and wearing em ever since. No break in period, good arch support and lots of cushion and support throughout the entire footbed. I started with the leather walkstar and now have several lulu styles. I do find you size down in these styles, i normally am a ladies 6 but in microbbleboards I take a 5. You can find them on amazon and ebay but be careful they are not imitations. I used to order from there but now order directly from Fitflop.ca. Watch for sales and you can strike good deals. Well worth the money. I work on a concrete floor for 12 hr shifts and my feet are never sore anymore. Love them!:)

I am heading over to Asia (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam) in Sept/Oct and will be taking my Ziera sneakers but would like to take a nice sandal that will be suitable for a day of strolling around temples (to give my feet a rest from the Ziera’s) and also double up for wearing to a nice restaurant at night. Bought these Rockports for my trip to Cancun. They are stylish and have trmendouse cushioning and arch support. I could walk in these all day.
