Travel Planner Shares Girly & Trendy Packing Style

How would you describe your travel style?

My travel style is no different from my at-home style – girly & trendy! I never want to be uncomfortable, but I always remind myself that I will have my travel pictures forever so I need to pack carefully!

Do you prefer to travel carry-on or with a regular size suitcase or bag?

I always travel with a full-size suitcase, a carry-on, and my amazing boyfriend (who carries all my bags!!)

Are you an overpacker or do you underpack?

I definitely underpack because you gotta leave room for lots of shopping! My suitcase is always over the weight limit on the way home! Everything in my house is a mix of things I’ve bought around the world – even toiletries and food!

How do you stay stylish while traveling without access to an entire closet?

It takes A LOT of planning – I pick out my exact outfits for each day based on my agenda. If I’m going for more than one week I plan to wear each item at least twice. If I need to switch up the look for something I’ve already worn I’ll add different accessories. If my outfit is “missing” something then I just buy new accessories (like a belt or headband) in whatever city I’m in!

What are your three must have travel essentials?

Travel laundry detergent, big sunglasses and a Longchamp Le Pliage bag.

What destination was the most fun to dress for?

Paris – for sure! It’s such a beautiful city and I wanted my outfits to match that. I packed a lot of dresses, a few designer purses, and cute flats. The weather was perfect too, so I didn’t need to pack sweaters or pants. I literally packed 12 dresses for day and night!

What destination surprised you the most with the ways locals dressed or their type of clothing?

Barcelona! Everyone looked effortlessly cool. I could people watch for hours there! It’s definitely my favorite destination for shopping too.

What’s your preferred travel outfit on a plane?

I usually start with leggings because they’re cuter than sweat pants but just as comfortable. Then I add layers… a long tank top, a sweater, and a big scarf. I like to be warm on the plane, but ready for hot weather after the flight too!

What are your favorite travel accessories?

Lately, I’ve been packing a lot of statement necklaces because they take up very little space but make a huge impact on an outfit. Scarves are always a favorite of mine too, but I don’t pack more than one. I always buy scarves because they are one of the cheapest fashion souvenirs you can buy! Paris and Sorrento are both great cities for buying scarves.

What are your favorite travel beauty essentials?

I never leave for a trip without a travel-sized hair mask. The change in climate, plus over-styling my hair everyday, means my hair gets super dry. I use a hair mask in place of conditioner to keep frizz away. This is even more essential if you’re going to be in the sun and ocean every day!

Do you have any specific hair or makeup products that work great for travel?

The only make-up I bring with me is a Nars “The Multiplier” stick! It’s eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick in one. The best part is I don’t need to pack any make-up brushes, and there’s no risk of loose powders or liquids spilling in my bag.

How many pairs of shoes do you travel with and what styles?

Usually 3 pairs – ballet flats, sandals, and either heels or wedges. I’ll substitute the flats for running shoes if it’s a more “active” vacation. I’ll also add a pair of flip flops for a beach vacation.

Do you have any recommendation for cute and comfortable footwear?

Quality is the biggest factor when picking out shoes for travel. I bought a great pair of heels that were leather inside and out and they were extremely comfortable – even walking around Rome’s cobblestone streets!

What was your biggest travel fashion or packing mistake?

Packing uncomfortable heels is a mistake I still make sometimes. I never end up wearing them and they’re a huge waste of space! I’ve learned that one pair of comfortable heels (or wedges) in a neutral color is much smarter.

Finally, any travel packing tips for new travelers?

Stick to one color palette and try to pack things that will get more than one day’s use. If you know what your agenda will be like, I highly recommend picking out each day’s outfits. This way, you won’t make any “fashion mistakes” and it makes every morning incredibly easy. I usually put each outfit on a calendar and save it on my iPhone.
