In Athens, wearing my Taos sneakers with my Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody (similar) and Tumi Carson Backpack (similar)
I spent a few weeks in Europe in the summer of 2022 to celebrate a milestone birthday, starting in Athens and making a stop in Santorini. It was truly magical, and I was happy with the shoes I packed; one were the Taos Plim Soul Lux sneakers and Coach slide sandals (sold out, but here’s a similar style). Note: on slides, they aren’t recommended for lots of walking, and if you pack a pair, they’re better off used for very short walking occasions.
If you want to read about my whole journey, here are all the trip reports:
With the help of TFG readers, we’ve rounded up the best shoes for walking in Greece that are comfortable and cute – take a look!

Whether you have a front loading or top loading backpack, it’s crucial to put your shoes first, at the bottom. If you’re planning to pack shoes in a rolling carry-on, remember that it stands sideways, so it’s important to note how it functions when it is upright. Most often, your shoes will need to be packed close to the wheels, so that the luggage maintains its balance in transit. This is the secret to packing carry-on only!

The Teva Tirra is my favorite!
Greece is at the top of my travel wishlist so I’ve bookmarked this page! Thank you.
I just spent four days in Athens. Be sure any shoes you wear have a good gripping sole as many of the sidewalks and walkways at the historic sites are made of marble! Very slippery. Santorini and Mykonos are beautiful, but very crowded with tourists (and it isn’t even the high season yet). I highly recommend the island of Rhodes. Beautiful and much less crowded.
Thank you for reporting back Susan, sounds like you had an amazing time!
Great post and really useful, thank you. I’ve been going to Greece for the last fourteen years on holiday – painting, walking, sightseeing, beach days , and must have packed a variety of the footwear listed above – its spot on! At the moment I’m here in Skiathos and have brought just three pairs ( I bring carry on only) , my black supportive Tevas for walking, gold Birkenstocks for everything else inc. evening, and black Greek leather flat sandals for a change during the day. I travelled in my white sneakers. Covered for all eventualities!
