Rio de Janeiro is definitely the place to be this year. It’s is the second largest city in Brazil and the state capital of Rio de Janeiro. Its historical sites – Christ the Redeemer anyone – glorious beaches, vibrant carnival, buzzing fashion scene and sultry samba attract millions of tourists each year. This packing list features tips on what to wear in Rio de Janeiro in their summer season between the months of December – March.

December to early March is generally when summer in Rio takes place. The weather can get very hot and humid, with temperatures hitting as high as 90-100F.
Make sure to pack your favorite wayfarer style sunglasses, a floppy black sun hat and plenty of high factor sunscreen. Be prepared, the insanely hot summer weather can sometimes be disrupted by sudden tropical rain storms.
Bring a lightweight yet waterproof jacket or better yet a portable umbrella to ensure you are prepared for such occasions. Don’t worry though, the storms don’t last long and are usually a welcome relief from the intense heat.

Summer in Rio hosts some of the city’s most exciting and favorable events. New Year’s Eve is a huge occasion in the city, locals and tourists alike flock to the Copacabana beach for one of the world’s most famous and electric firework displays and all round party.
Carnival is the second largest event of the summer; the streets are filled with sensational partying and parades. Summer is definitely the season of celebration.

The style in Rio has a cool and casual vibe where really, anything goes. At night the atmosphere is equally as chilled; the look is trendy and cool.
Make sure to pack a few stylish outfits, such as slim fitting jeans and an embellished cami, to enjoy an evening meal or cocktails. Be slightly weary of wearing too many designer pieces or flash expensive jewelry, you don’t want to attract unwanted attention.

When planning what to wear in Rio de Janeiro keep in mind that summer is the perfect season to debut your favorite classic summer looks.
Pack a selection of printed summer dresses and playsuits to nail a feminine look, add a selection of neutral tank top, t’s and blouses to pair with denim or printed shorts.
Midi skirts are also great for summer and don’t forget your favorite blue jeans, these will become your go to piece – opt for a high waisted cropped pair to nail a chic and stylish look.
Make sure to pack a selection of your favorite bikinis or swimsuits when planning what to wear in Rio de Janeiro as you’re guaranteed to spend a lot of your time relaxing on one of their outstanding beaches.
Pack a light, airy dress or a pair of shorts, palazzo pants or midi skirt and casual t-shirt to throw over your swimsuit when leaving the beach if you want to blend in with the locals. Wandering around in your swimwear, even on the boardwalk, will definitely get you branded a tourist.
Shoe wise, pack a pair of classic flip-flops such as TFG’s favorite Ipanema sandals for the beach and either chic sandals or cute ballerina flats for exploring the city.
Rio is a great city to discover by foot, so make sure you pack shoes that are comfortable enough to spend your days sightseeing in.
