50 Shades of Grey isn’t just the biggest thing to hit the best seller’s list, it’s the best thing to happen to travel fashion, too. Find out why grey clothing makes the perfect neutral in your wardrobe!
50 Shades of Grey Clothing
One of my good friends and color analyst Ximena de la Serna assessed me and determined that I am a deep winter season. As it turns out, black clothing is perfect for deep winters like me. This is a double bonus for me. I love wearing black plus it’s a super easy color to wear for travel.
But as Nina Rina recently wrote in Are You Tired of Wearing All Black Outfits for Travel, yes I am bored and you seem to agree. If you feel the same way let me introduce you to my new travel fashion must have: grey clothing. It’s my new favorite color to wear!
Last month I fell in love with several clothing items from Urban Outfitters and found myself with an entirely new color palette of choice. From soft heather to washed and worn and deep almost plum hues, I just can’t get enough of my new favorite neutral.

I’m currently grey obsessed with my All Saints jeans, asymmetrical dress from Urban Outfitters, and aztec printed pashmina.
If you like monochrome colors like me, ultra-pale grey clothing makes the perfect alternative to white when you’re afraid to walk around with dirty or dusty clothing.

It’s also much more heat friendly for hot summer travel than the color black which can absorb heat. Although, I think a soft heather grey it would look equally as lovely in a snowy winter white destination, too.
Not a fan of grey clothes? Another good alternative to black is navy. For now, however, I’ll be sticking to my 50 shades of grey!

Thank you! You always look so nice in your black and grey outfits. I love grey. I’m a redhead, so charcoal is one of my best colors but light grey washes me out. Charcoal is one of the most practical wardrobe colors, because it stays clean-looking and is easy to dress up or down. It’s a chic color choice year-round. I love black, even in summer, but it shows dirt and attracts biting insects. Charcoal looks great with black, whites, brights and neutrals. It’s very pretty with grey hair, too. Choosing wardrobe and accessory colors from hair and eye colors is an easy way to find flattering combinations.
Hi Diane, that is so kind of you, thank you!! This has made my day! ?? Thank you for sharing this with me. Happy travels!
I am a grey girl, too! My husband is always fearful when I start unbagging my shopping finds, there is always this little prelude from him “Another grey…..!”
Lately I am crushing on betabrand.com/womens-red-eye-travel-wrap-blanket.html
My husband always complains about “another black top that’s so different from your other ten…” lol
I have just been discovering grey and loving it. We all love our easy black wardrobes but black is just too severe for some hot destinations and just too severe for my warm Spring complexion. Grey is so versatile. Thanks for doing this article.
Thanks Liz! Glad you like it 🙂
