My issue isn’t with creating a capsule makeup kit for travel but all the “potions” (serums, facial cleanser, moisturizers, sunscreens, eye make-up removal, etc, etc). At age 65 I have been trying to focus on skincare for a couple decades. Those items and all my hair products are what take up most of my suitcase when traveling! I have such a hard time with COO because of makeup and toiletries. I will definitely use the suggestions you have talked about here to help minimize what I bring. I’m really excited to try this for an upcoming trip to Europe and Greece.
I find managing what cosmetics to bring on a trip the absolute toughest part, especially an upcoming trip to Italy with carry on only. I have pared down my routine to save space and streamline the process. I use a primer with SPF 15 followed by BB cream with SPF 40, a lid primer and instead of eye shadow I use a liquid blush in Glow, a neutral color. I use an eye liner pencil, eye lash curler and (sometimes) mascara. Brow pencil and/or brow gel. I brush on some matte light bronzer over forehead, cheeks , chin and a little over earlobes and down sides of neck. Sometimes I brush on some matte yellow setting powder, pat a little stick highlighter on brow bones and cheekbones and spray some Rose water on my face to set everything. I’ll use some lip balm and for evening, a little lipstick. This routine covers my sunscreen needs and looks pulled together and understated. I’m done in less than 10 minutes and I don’t have too many liquids in my TSA 3-1-1 bag.

My fav thing in my travel makeup bag is definitely my Smashbox Cali Contour face palette. Not only using it for contour, bronzer, blush amd highlighter, but also can curate a variety of different eye looks. Plus the contour shade works for filling in my brows. I’m all for a multiuse product.
I’ve been working on paring down my packing, including my makeup, so I’m going to give the Subtl Beauty stack a try for my upcoming trips. Along with a lip gloss tube filled full coverage foundation, some mascara, a brow pencil, some travel makeup brushes and an extra lip gloss, I think I’ll be good. I hope it works!
If packing for carry on, airlines only allow 1 oz. of any liquid product but no restrictions on solids. I have often wondered why someone doesn’t come up with a make up line made up only of solids? Not only makeup but also day/night creams, eye cream, shampoo, etc. Mascara and eye liner are only 1 oz. but a lot of other make up products are in liquid form. If anyone has any suggestions of products that are in solid form that they like, please let me know.

I absolutely LOVE Trinny London products!! The snap-together pods are perfect for travel and the combo pots of lips/cheeks make it so I bring even less when I travel.
Make up is the one thing I struggle the most when packing, I’m a serious make up junkie and I’d like to take everything with me… but then I remember that when I’m away I honestly do not have time for make up. I don’t want to spend my journey in front of a mirror, I just want to give myself a quick pick-me-up and be out of the door! I’ve been that one girl who used to lug around 12 lipsticks and 5 eyeshadow palettes, but now I forced myself to narrow down to the bare essentials.
What I bring now:
– BBcream so I can put it on with my hands and ditch both primer and brush/sponge
– Tiny jar with loose powder + mini kabuki
– Cream blush which I can put on with my fingers, plus no breaking risk!
– Concealer for undereye and breakouts
– 2 lipliners and 2 lipsticks, a neutral daytime shade and a deepest one for times I want to feel fancy
– One cream shadow that doesn’t need eye primer and brushes, I can apply it with my fingers and it stays put all day long
– Black pencil eyeliner to smudge with a Q-tip if I’m feeling like it
– Mascara
– Eyebrow gel
This way I can be ready in 10 minutes!
