Choosing the right travel beauty products can be challenging, especially when your goal is to travel light. In order to comply with the 3-1-1 liquid rule, we have to think small and pack more carefully, lest our favorite moisturizer be trashed at security. (I hate it when that happens!)
Also, beauty products can take up a lot of space and weight, so we need to pack only the essentials. It can be hard to decide what to bring with you so we’ve devised a list to help you decide.
Here are the top ten essential travel beauty products:
Makeup wipes
Sephora Cleansing & Exfoliating Wipes I Pond’s Towelettes
One of the top travel beauty essentials (and one that’s easily forgotten) are makeup wipes. Panda eyes when you get off the plane are the worst and wearing heavy makeup for long-haul flights can cause breakouts.
After a long day of sightseeing, the last thing you want to do is fall asleep with your makeup on. Wipes are so convenient!

Hand Sanitizer
Purell Hand Sanitizer I Natural Hand Sanitizer
It’s nice to have a small bottle of hand sanitizer so you can quickly disinfect your hands (or other surfaces) on the plane, before grabbing a bite to eat, or after using public transport.
It’s also handy if you’re studying abroad. Everyone tends to gets sick at the start of a semester, when everyone goes back to college.

Mini shampoo/conditioner

You can pick up a small bottle of shampoo and conditioner at convenience stores or pharmacies at your destination but it’s nice to have at least a small amount to refresh yourself when you land, especially if you’ve had a long journey.

I’d really avoid make up wipes as they’re so full of perfume and fragrance they’re awful for your skin. Always gives me massive cystic acne. Do what Lisa Eldrdige does, a small bottle of micellar cleansing lotion (fragrance-free for preference) and a wad of cotton.
There are tons of all natural and non perfume ones theses days.

Make up wipes and single use products are terrible for the environment – as travellers we really should try to improve the beautiful world around us rather than add to its problems.
Reusable travel bottles are brilliant and you can use your favourite brands inside them.
Also, it might be because I’m Australian but surprised not to see sun cream on this list. No point putting makeup on only to fry underneath!
Instead of antibacterial gel, I prefer to take wet wipes. It’s one less liquid to worry about squeezing into my 3-1-1 bag and it makes it super easy to wipe down a surface without requiring tissues/napkin. I prefer Kleenex Fresh on the Go wipes, or Nice & Clean Antibacterial Hand Wipes. I love my Violife Slim Sonic toothbrush and never travel without it. It’s great that it come with its own brush cover so I don’t have to worry about what it touches when throwing it in my bag.
