Spring Trends
Written By: Niki Landry
This year is rapidly moving out of winter and into new spring fashions and trends. Warmer weather calls for more color, exposed skin, and shopping trips to update your wardrobe!
In order to grow and build upon your existing capsule packing list, I’ve rounded up the latest trends to assist with your upcoming shopping adventures.
The styles below can be easily incorporated into your travel wardrobe and keep you up to date with the new spring 2017 trends:
Bright Stripes
T-shirt | Dress | Kimono Shirt
There’s one item that makes it into my bag on every trip: the striped top. It doesn’t matter where I’m going, a simple striped shirt is a staple that I don’t leave home without.
For my fellow stripe lovers, this season the classic pattern comes in updated colors that will transition easily into spring and summer. Bold hues and interesting color combos will infuse some fun into your capsule travel wardrobes.

Gathered Waist
Gingham Skirt | Paper Bag Skirt | Pants
“Paper bag” or gathered waist bottoms are a feminine and fun twist on the classic high-waist pant or skirt. It’s a nice casual change of pace for denim or chino addicts.
I love to pair these bottoms with simple fitted tees or crop tops, letting the interesting waistline be the center of attention. On pants, tapered or fitted silhouettes work well for travel because they pair nicely with both casual and dressy flats.

Cold Shoulder Button Down
Cold Shoulder Top | Off-the-Shoulder Top | Button-Down Shirt
Many of this season’s trends are the reinvention of classic wardrobe pieces into something a little different, making them easy to transition into your existing closet.
The three tops below reference the popular exposed shoulder trend combined with a collared button-down. The result gives you a little more structure than the flowy off-the-shoulder tops that were super popular last spring.
Here are 5 simple steps on how to build your travel wardrobe!
Ruffle Top
If you’re feeling feminine this spring, ruffled tops are going to be your new favorite blouse. The buttoned up versions have a Victorian look with their fluffy sleeves and pleated collars.
Ruffle embellished shirts are easy to find this season, and there are styles to suit every taste. There are ruffles on wrists, at the neck, around the shoulders, and everywhere in between! Longer sleeves are more versatile for unpredictable shoulder season weather (no pun intended!).

Utilitarian
Dress | Tunic | Shirt Dress
To counter the ultra-feminine and romantic details popping up this spring, utilitarian-inspired clothing is an option for a more structured outfit. Flap pockets, muted colors, and simple details are all characteristics of these laid-back styles.
These utilitarian pieces are the perfect option for a no-fuss travel outfit. The low-key colors like army green, camel, and terracotta easily round out a neutral wardrobe palette.

Single Shoulder
Exposed shoulders are here to stay, and the asymmetrical sleeve items below are a great way to incorporate it into your packing list. Fun and flirty without being overexposed, these sweet styles are versatile and fashionable.
Wear these looks with flat sandals during the day and transition into evening with block heels or ballet flats along with statement earrings.

Bandana Scarf
Printed Bandana | Primavera Scarf | Madras Bandana | Bandana
Outfits looking a little dull? Bandanas are an easy and stylish way to bring color and interest to your clothing combos. Trade in your infinity scarves for a square cotton or silk patterned scarf.
Wear them around your neck, wrap your wrist, tuck in a pocket, or tie in your hair for the simplest of outfit updates. They’re easy to pack and instantly add fun to your travel wardrobe.

My favorite choice update right now is the striped tops. I used to wear some as a kid but it got harder to find ones I liked as I continued on. Now the striped tops are coming back to the spacing that the ones I liked to wear as a kid have. Thank you for the ideas.
Great choice Ashley!
