When you’re on vacation, the last thing you want to do is spend unnecessary time primping and prepping. Having nicely done hair adds the finishing touch to a well-planned travel outfit but cut down on the time it takes you to get ready so you can spend more time sightseeing. Read these tips on how to dry your hair fast on the go!
How to Dry Your Hair Fast
While it sounds easy to just hop out of the shower, air-dry, and voilà…It’s not the case if you’re looking for frizz-free, styled hair. Air drying can take hours, especially if you have thick, curly hair.
Read these tips on whether you should bring along a travel blow dryer!
To help speed up your drying time, try these methods for how to dry your hair fast to keep your hair looking healthy and tamed throughout the day.
Quick-Absorbing Microfiber
The average bath towel isn’t doing us any favors. As soon as you step out of the shower, wring out any excess water from your hair using a Aquis Waffle Luxe Hair Towel. The lightweight, aquitex fabric prevents harsh damage to your hair, minimizing frizz and split ends.
Microfiber towels don’t create friction on the hair like regular towels. The super-absorbent fabric efficiently dries hair gently and is ideal for those with thicker hair.
You can also use these fast-drying travel towel styles for your hair and body!
Shake It Out
After towel drying your hair to get out any excess moisture, gently shake your head back and forth for a few minutes to help speed up the drying of your hair.
Flip your hair upside down and give it a good shake with your towel focusing on the scalp and the doing the rest of your hair. It’s a common thing hair stylists do when you go to the beauty salon.
This single step can cut down major chunk of your hair drying time. It’s my favorite hair hack and you’ll notice that your hair has dried significantly.
Leave-In Conditioner
Believe it or not, your leave in conditioner can help kick up the drying time of your strands. Most products are filled with alcohol and silicones that coat each strand and seal in any moisture.
With any hair type, be it straight or natural, the Reverie Milk Anti-Frizz Leave-In Nourishing Treatment will tame frizz and fly-aways caused by air drying. The lightweight formula also protects and adds a beautiful shine to each strand.
This tip should be avoided for women with fine hair and is more useful for thick hair.
Here are a few tips on how to make your blowout last for days!
Wet Brush
While most of us are accustomed to using a round brush to blow dry our hair, using the correct brush will dry your hair faster and detangle it without breakage. After you’ve applied your leave-in conditioner, a specially-designed brush will detangle wet hair and distribute moisture effectively.
The Tangle Teezer Aqua Splash Detangling Hairbrush will help dry your hair for pain-free detangling. The comb bends and flexes through the hair to avoid any damage. Hair should be 50% dry when combed through to get rid of any knots and frizz.

Pump Up the Volume
Hair looking a little limp? One of the downsides to air drying your hair is the lack of volume and lift to your roots.
Once you’ve combed your hair and it’s nearly fully air dried, pop in some Velcro rollers and leave them in for 30 minutes. If you’re not short on time, this is a fantastic way to keep your hair looking healthy without heat damage plus, they don’t weigh anything.
Drybar High Tops Self-Grip Rollers can be used on the crown area of your hair for a mega lift. For a beachy-wavy look, apply sea salt spray near the ends after you’ve taken out your rollers. Twist each section and spray Lavett & Chin Sea Salt Texturizing Mist lightly and then scrunch it.

Alex, since we booked a four week Fall trip to the UK and Norway I’ve been reading your posts religiously. This will be our third European trip and I now feel more confident packing less than I have in the past. Though still not a carry-on only traveler, I have greatly lessened the items I’m taking realizing that I will be able to mix up the items I do plan to take. Also, three pair of shoes only (two of which are waterproof!) the third which will be a nicer pair of booties. Thank you for convincing me that I can do this and do it in style!
So glad that you found us and that TFG has been able to help you with your packing. Have the most amazing time on your travels ❤
This post is a literal life saver! Thank you so much! I am currently in Egypt and the weather is super warm so washing hair is basically a daily ritual! These tips seriously helped me out! Much love, xx
As a recently retired teacher who now has more time to travel, I enjoy reading your information regarding travel. Thank you for added such helpful tips and tricks. Also, congratulations on 37 countries traveled and most importantly, your 2 year anniversary!
I would just suggest showering at night. My hair is down to my waist so there is no way I’m spending precious vacation time waiting around for it to dry. I shower at night and sleep with it in a French braid.
That’s a great suggestion Rachel, thanks!
I swear Alex I think you and your team are reading my mind! Your posts are always what I am thinking about or researching. When I saw this post today I couldn’t believe it, I have been looking for articles on this very subject in the last couple weeks! I love your site, it is my travel bible. Keep up the good work!
Wow that’s awesome Donna! Glad we could read your mind ?
