The Tumi V3 International Carry On
Written By: Leighann Heil
The Tumi International Voyageur is a stylish travel luggage suitcase and is Tumi’s lightest hard-side carryon to date. Although it’s not the cheapest luggage option, it’s a great option for both national and international travel.
The wheels roll smoothly and the beautiful floral pattern adds a stylish touch that also makes it easy to locate your luggage.

Tumi V3 International Expandable Carry-on
Basics
Suitcase brand and style: Tumi V3 International carry on
Dimensions: 22″ high, 14″ wide, and 9″ deep, expandable to 11″ deep
Weight: 7.12 pounds
Capacity: 37 liters
Material: A lightweight polycarbonate
Opening Type: Standard zip open suitcase
Features: Inside the top portion, there is a zipper closure and a flat pocket. The bottom portion includes an adjustable tie-down strap with gray nylon lining. The bag has handles both on the top and side, with a telescoping, recessed handle and four 360-degree spinning wheels.
Security: This bag meets the sizing requirements for both domestic and international flights. It has an integrated, TSA combination-locking system, meaning that if your bag is checked, TSA can open your case without damage.
Travel Type: This stylish bag is perfect for a city break, luxury traveling, and family vacations.
Durability
I have taken this suitcase on airline trips, road trips, and cruises, and found the telescoping handle sturdy and the wheels smooth. The case is lightweight and almost roll itself down the airport concourse.
It is perfectly balanced with no risk of tipping over. It rolled down the smallest plane aisles and went into the overheads with no effort. It even fit into an Uber with a tiny trunk! On the cruise, the bag was easy to roll to the port and to pick up as we disembarked, while carrying it up and down stairs was a breeze.
The warranty from Tumi includes twelve months of any damage from wear and tear, and an additional four years of repairs for damage to handles, zippers, and locks.
Comfort and Mobility
This is not luggage that is convenient to use everywhere. If you are traveling on dirt roads or taking public transport, this bag would not be recommended. It would be awkward to carry over long stretches of ground without pavement.
With the carry on is stylish and expensive looking, you might be targeted as a “rich tourist.” While Tumi is known for their well-made and stylish luggage, they also command premium prices.
Spaciousness
The lack of space requires creative packing. Since it divides in the middle, the large lower section cannot be stuffed full, or the bag will not close. The lower section is somewhat taken up by the housing of the telescoping handle, leaving three “valleys” to pack in. This does restrict the type of items you can fit in the lower section.
I used the top of the bag for pants, shirts, and dresses, and the rest for shoes, toiletries, and hair appliances. I was able to pack for a full week’s worth of outfits in this case, including athletic shoes, but it did require planning, packing cubes, and creative use of the space.
Since the suitcase doesn’t have an outside pocket, there isn’t room for extras, like medication, chargers, or liquids. It is difficult to grab things quickly since you must lay the bag flat to open it properly. There is only one inside pocket geared towards thin items.
Style
As you can see, this suitcase is very stylish. Tumi offers complimentary personalization on every bag they sell. Your luggage tag and case is engraved with either a monogram or initials in a selection of colors and fonts.
This bag is very suited to business or leisure travel, especially when looking stylish is important. It gets noticed, looks expensive, and matches any black accessory you might carry. You would look stylish in New York City or Paris with this bag. Both distinctive and feminine, the case is located quickly on the baggage carousel.
Pros
Perhaps the biggest pros to the Tumi V3 International carry on are the great warranty, TSA integrated locking system, beautiful styling, hard-side protection in a lightweight body, and easy maneuverability.
The three-stage telescoping handle is convenient, and the floral design sets the bag apart from the generic, black bags on every baggage carousel.
Cons
The cons for this suitcase include a lack of an outside pocket, limited space inside, an inability to quickly open and close the case, and lack of straps to carry on the shoulder or back.
Verdict
Overall, I believe the bag is worth the price because of the ease of use, the beautiful and lightweight styling, petite size, the high-quality craftsmanship, the integrated TSA locking system, and the excellent warranty.
