Travel Fashion Girl promise: we only work with companies we know you’ll love so you can rest assured, when we say we like a brand, we mean it! This post was written by me through an activation with Hire Influence on behalf of Southwest Airlines. Although I received compensation for participating in the campaign, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Just got back from my surprise trip with Southwest Airlines and it was short but very sweet! They flew me to the Bahamas for the weekend and booked me in for a stay at the gorgeous Island House boutique hotel along with an adventure packed day at Atlantis.

Bahamas Weekend Getaway

If you live for weekend getaways carry-on is the only way to travel! I was glad to have only taken my Southwest backpack as my main cabin bag along with my Rebecca Minkoff crossbody to hold just the essentials. I was able to breeze through the airports and to my destination with ease!
After jumping on a short 30 minute flight from Ft Lauderdale to Nassau I was ready for my mini-vacay including two fabulous pieces from the Vacay clothing line.
The items were even more beautiful in person and just as versatile as they claim. I only wore their Blue Sky caftan and the St. Barts two-piece dress on my stay. I also brought along a pair of white shorts since their clothing is all made to be interchangeable with any basics.

To maximize space, try to choose a plane outfit you can wear to and from your destination. I was still sick from a flu so I covered up a bit more for the flights with an Ibex long sleeve merino wool and Pull & Bear jeans. These two items can be worn repeatedly without washing.
I also brought a couple of layers including my favorite H&M blanket scarf and Zara jacket. These layers were handy since it was chilly in Nassau at night.
For shoes I only brought my Ipanema sandals as I was eager to let my toes breathe after being stuck in boots in the cold weather at home. I didn’t need anything else since my adventure day over at Atlantis was sandal-approved.
Heading to a sunny destination usually doesn’t require much and you can easily get away with a couple of versatile pieces. I could easily live in a comfortable caftan for an entire beach stay.
my room at The Island House
I usually recommend you call or email your accommodation in advance to see if they provide toiletries and if so what kind. The Island House had THE most incredible natural toiletries but I’d brought all my essentials in mini travel containers. I could’ve easily left them behind if I would’ve taken my own advice!
You also want to make sure to bring any specific items (such as sunblock) you’ll need based on your activities. In my case I had a full day to explore the Bahamas and you suggested I spend the day in Atlantis.
Watch my Facebook Live where I show you “what’s in my bag” and give you a tour of the hotel room!
Great suggestion, I loved Atlantis! I spent at least half the day mesmerized by the aquariums with the sharks and rays. While I much prefer seeing these guys in their natural habitat while when I’m scuba diving it was incredible to get so close to them, which I can’t do underwater.
I was so happy especially when i saw the graceful leopard shark. I saw one once in Thailand but couldn’t swim toward it fast enough to see it as closely as I would’ve liked. It was so breathtaking as I watched it swim up and down the aquarium.
Spent the rest of the dipping my toes in the sand before heading back for a yummy sushi dinner at the Shima restaurant at the hotel.
The weekend came to an end way too soon but I’m grateful to have partnered with Southwest Airlines and Hire Influence for this opportunity.

I’ve been a full time traveler for so long I forgot how easy it was to have a quick international weekend getaway from the USA. Spending just a couple of days in the Bahamas was fun and getting a sunny escape can make all the difference in the world.
Unlike other countries, Americans aren’t encouraged to take all of their vacation days all at once so it’s long weekend breaks like these that can keep you motivated.
When I used to have a corporate job I would live for these opportunities to hop on a plane from Thurs-Sun or Fri-Mon and would travel to beach destinations such as Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, and Puerto Rico. It was so much fun!
This weekend reminded me of those quick but fun getaways!
It’s easier than ever before to jump on a plane and take a quick (and much needed) vacation. Enjoy!

Which sandal style and color do you find most versatile of ipanema?
It’s an old post but these are two of my favorite styles: https://travelfashiongirl.com/travel-shoes-for-women-travel-accessory-must-haves/ I always tend towards a nude color or black!
