Feel like a true queen of the wilderness on your next camping adventure with a portable hammock. You can ditch the tent and swing between the trees for a real sense of the great outdoors.

Although this may be an option for the more experienced backpacker or outdoor enthusiast, read on to find out why a hammock bed could work for you.

First, you may have some questions about camping hammocks:

What Is a Hammock for Camping?

You may have heard of a hanging hammock to relax in, but did you know you can get ones to sleep in too? A daytime and sleeping hammock are actually a bit different, so you can’t just buy any. A daytime option is a little lighter and smaller, as the space you need doesn’t need to be as ergonomical for your back.

An outdoor hammock for sleeping tends to be a little longer and wider to allow room to get comfy, plus wiggle room for nighttime toss and turns. They are often asymmetrical so you can lie flatter than you would on a daytime hammock.

How to Hang A Hammock?

When you’re planning on camping with a hammock outdoor in the wild, the important thing to plan is the terrain, there need to be enough trees that are close enough together for hanging a hammock between.

Hammocks are put up with straps that wrap around the trees, but be aware, most straps are usually sold separately.

What Else Do I Need to Know About Using a Hammock for Hiking or Sleeping?

Keeping warm is important on any camping trip, but especially with a tree hammock. Even in summer, a hiking hammock can get cold and it can be dangerous to be exposed to the elements without the right protection.

It’s extra important to have protection from rain and layers of insulation to keep you warm. This includes wearing the proper thermals, gloves, and hat.

So as well as hammocks, we have added our top camping hammock accessories to help you have everything you’ll need.
