Wearing my custom made Combat boots I had made in Hoi An, Vietnam
Here are some tips on choosing a combat boot:
- Choose a style that has a side or back zipper closure with faux laces so it’s easy to remove for flights.
- Metal hardware shouldn’t matter as you’d have to remove most boots to go through security anyway.
- Leather, faux leather, or waterproof materials are best.
- Look for soles with adequate traction if expecting rainy weather or traversing cobblestone streets.
- Not sure how to style your combat boots? It’s so easy when it comes to the autumn and winter months. Just add some jeans, a skirt or dress with a pair of tights if needed, and any layered look like a sweater, blazer or denim jacket and you’ll look absolutely fab
Below you’ll find some top-rated ones that are the perfect solution to your walking needs and are stylish and comfortable!

I picked up these super cute Sam Edelman women’s lace up boots loving the look with the chunky laces. They’re made of a durable leather with elastic side panels for a flexible fit. Compass Rose Carryon Size Packing Cubes: Slim Size Cubes | Medium Size Cubes
How to Pack Your Cool Combat Boots
Flat boots travel well; however, they still need to be adequately packed, especially if you’re trying to pack light and avoid a shoe poking through a bag. To make it easier, start by choosing a container such as a shoe bag or a packing cube, then pack according to your type of luggage. Learn more about packing cubes in the video below.
Many of our readers use Compass Rose Packing Cubes to organize and compress their clothing and other items they plan to bring. These packing cubes are the only ones on the market with a number and color-coded system, so you know where you packed everything.
And now the Compass Rose Packing Cubes are offered in two sizes: slim and medium. The slim size cubes measure 13” x 5” x 2.8”, and the medium size cubes measure 2.8” x 13” x 8.5”. Both fit an international carry-on suitcase. Users say the medium size is great for bulkier items!
Watch this video to start learning how to organize with packing cubes!
Whether you have a front loading or top loading backpack, it’s crucial to put your shoes first, at the bottom. If you’re planning to pack shoes in a rolling carry-on, remember that it stands sideways, so it’s important to note how it functions when it is upright. Most often, your shoes will need to be packed close to the wheels, so that the luggage maintains its balance in transit.
To store, use washable shoe bags, or reusable plastic shower caps to keep your belongings separate from your shoes
We put together a five-part YouTube series showing the different methods of using packing cubes for travel. If you use this specific packing strategy, packing cubes can also compress your belongings. This is the secret to traveling carry-on only!

I have been on the hunt for a pair of stylish boots for my trip to NYC during Thanksgiving. I have been scrolling and reading reviews until I am blue in the face… and viola.. the perfect list with all the info I needed!! Just ordered the Sorel Hi-Line Stylish Military Boots. Can’t for them to arrive!! Thanks for making it so simple.
I love a good combat boot! Thanks for this list; I’ll be sure to reference it the next time I shop for my next pair 🙂
This is a style I want to try this year
I love combat boots as they never really seem to go out of style. Are there combat boots that require minimal to no break-in period?
Bates women’s boots arrived in perfect condition and on time. I’m a fairly accurate size 7 in almost all brands of shoes. (Occasionally a shoe is too tight and a 7 1/2 will do). I ordered a size 7 and they go well with thick boot socks. They weren’t tight or uncomfortable, but there wasn’t much room to maneuver. This is the perfect fit for me, but if you’re someone who likes room in the toe of the boot, maybe go half a size up. I didn’t feel any chafing in the ankle area, I did feel a bit in the heel area (but to be fair I haven’t broken them yet either). They look very well made and I will be using them for EMS work.
That is really helpful to know, thank you for sharing! ?
Love my Docs. The monochromatic ones go with even more outfits.
