The Bento Bag is great! I do film work/modeling/commercials & use it when I have out of town bookings. Very functional & got it during special pricing.
I can see me carrying the Vera Bradley bag but worry about the cotton fabric. Of course the Bento is perfect, but a little pricey for me. There’s a lot to think about here. Also have to figure out how to keep my husband from finding all these purchases I’m making because of this site!
OMG. I totally copied you in the picture with the bento bag. I bought the Kenya safari jacket, took a pair of jeans and cut knee holes and bought the Bento bag for me and my husband!!! I have tried lots of carryon bags but there was always something not right. The Bento bag opens like a suitcase so its like an extension of your carryon. I use it for my toiletries, jewelry and 2 pairs of shoes. The outside pocket is perfect for paperwork i.e. passport, tix etc. Although the safari jacket has a deep outside pocket that I use for passport/tix/id so its easy to get too. This bag is a perfect accessory when your goal is to not check in…Love it and so does my husband. Nomad Lane Bento bag WINS!!!
In preparation for my summer girl’s trip to Paris, I ordered the Lily & Drew weekender that so many in the group love. It performed beautifully for my 12 day trip. I paired it with a Samsonite hard shell 19” roller. Although the Lily & Drew did well for the 12 days, I think I need something a little bigger for next year’s vacay. If all goes as planned, my husband and I will be going to Italy for over two weeks. And, I don’t know if any of your partner’s do this, but he ends up handing me multiple items throughout our adventures together because “his backpack is full and I have more room.” Lol So, imma need something bigger when I travel with him.

I love the way you cover so many options – problem is I can’t decide amongst them… am a sucker for bags and finding it hard to choose! A side sleeve adds to their versatility and is a definite requirement for me – means it’s easier to transport at the airport/station and adds flexibility for shorter stays (during a longer stay) when a bigger case isn’t needed all the time.

These are cute, but I have trouble fitting everything I need into a duffle. So even for an overnight I end up taking my away carryon. I pack the same for an overnight as a week long strip – so much is the basics like toiletries!
I have the Vera Bradley weekender in quilted navy fabric. It’s a great size for overnight or a weekend and great as a personal item too. I splurged and had mine monogrammed. It has great compartments and a trolley sleeve. It also flattens out for storage in bigger luggage in case you want to have extra bag for gifts.

Love love love the Bento bag. I’ve been reading this site for years and have purchased dozens of recommended products. But now a quick story…with airlines so full these days that any mechanical issue, staff shortage etc can create long flight delays and cancellations. After a disastrous Asian trip in 2002 where my luggage seemingly followed me country to country (a day late for 3 days) I vowed then that I would only travel w/ carry-on luggage forever more. The Bento bag helps organize “the business items”, and provides space relief for a 19 or 22″ roller. Fast forward – a recent flight had a 4-hour delay due to mechanical issues. Our family was able to book another flight while on the original plane at the gate – because we had all of our luggage with us! We arrived home only a little late. Grateful to have had my Bento bag!

Just another great post of so much savvy travel content – I got my step daughter the Ecosusi bag for her international travel (she has to go light) and she adores it – practical, good looking, well priced! and your advisories made a 4 week trip to Italy w/just 1 carry on a breeze!
A few years ago I got a Lipault City Plume which was on sale, to go with my Lipault carry on. It ended up being a great purchase and altho each time I pack I intend to transition to a small backpack, I always end up using the City Plume instead as it hold more, has many compartments to organize everything, is a great laptop/iPad bag, and has thus far always been the acceptable size for a personal item on international flights. I highly recommend it.
The Longchamp is on my wish list. I have the Vera Bradley in the plain black, though, and love it. Your reviews and suggestions have been a godsend. I have your packing cubes and LOVE them. Thanks so much.
