The change of seasons from summer to fall for most people means the dropping of temperatures. Time to pull out layers, outwear, scarves, and boots! It also means brand new fall fashion trends to freshen up your travel wardrobe. If you find yourself on the move this season, here are eight items that will keep you in style and also work well for travel.

Maui Stripe Silk Noil Cape Scarf
Capes
Ponchos, blanket coats, capes, and oversized scarfs are everywhere for fall fashion. If the outerwear is big and warm in a Southwestern pattern, color-block, or plaid it’s a great choice.
They look good paired with leggings or skinny jeans and boots or stylish flats. Pack for casual weekend getaways, camping, trips to wine country, or any place where you want to stay warm and comfy.
Here are some tips on what to wear in the in-between weather seasons like fall and spring!
Reflective Lens Round Trendy Sunglasses
Round Sunglasses
Clothing and accessories influenced by the 70’s are popping up in stores. My favorite and the one I’m wearing this fall is the round framed sunglasses. Looking to the past, but with an updated style, these are an easy and inexpensive way to try a new trend.
For extra suncare protection, look for polarized sunglasses for women.
Beanies
An oldie but a goodie. A classic knit beanie is an easy must-have for the fall time and as usual. we’re seeing plenty of them. Go for a classic black or gray so that it can complement just about any look.
Naturalizer January Riding Boot
Over the Knee Boots
These have been popular for a while, but it doesn’t make them any less in style. I prefer flat styles in black, which are more versatile and better for traveling.
They aren’t always the easiest to pack so it’s a good idea to wear them on the plane and travel days. In addition to tucking my jeans and leggings, I like to wear them with dresses to keep my legs warm instead of wearing tights.
These will work best in cold climates so if you’re going to experience different weather systems on the same trip, consider ankle boots instead.
Ankle Tie Flats
I’m thinking this is the fall version of the lace up gladiator sandal that was popular for summer. They add a sexy detail to a simple classic shoe. Since I have narrow feet, I’m a fan of any shoe with an ankle strap.
I tend to slip out of shoes, and these ties will keep them firmly in place. It also works well for walking around cities, cobblestones, and up/down hill during your travels.
This style has been going strong from Spring and we’re not ready to see them go yet. Look for a pair in nude or black to get the most use out of a trendy shoe.

Distressed Denim
Ripped jeans are that one trend that just keeps coming back time and time again. This edgy style easily works in the fall time, and we love pairing them with other staples like ankle boots and beanies (more on that below!)
Keep the rest of your look polished so that you’ve got a good balance of shabby and chic.
Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Crossbody Bag
Burgundy
Burgundy is the perfect neutral for travel and is currently topping the charts as the most popular color for fall fashion. It coordinates with every neutral, so it integrates into your existing wardrobe easily.
Pair burgundy with black or white for a simple outfit, or add blue to make things interesting. It also looks great in the form of accessories. I’ve seen hats, watchbands, sunglasses, and purses all in this season’s deep shade.
Here’s the best money belts and anti-theft accessories for travel!
Oxfords
Infuse some menswear into your look this fall with a classic oxford. There are plenty of options out there for ladies, with many equipped with modern details like a platform or print.
But this season, we’re all for the classic look. Go vintage chic with a rich tan or black leather oxford and opt for the standard silhouette. Pair with jeans, a white button up shirt and a toasty latte in hand.
Soft Multicolor Sheer Infinity Scarf
Animal Print
Leopard print has officially taken the season by storm! Whether it be scarves, boots, or dresses, it couldn’t be easier to infuse this trendy print into your fall wardrobe.
Its versatility allows it to work as either a bold print or an elevated neutral. If you go the scarf route, pair with either a cream sweater or a classic denim jacket.

*sigh* if only I didn’t travel with a tiny backpack. Sometimes I really consider upgrading to an adult suitcase so I can have pretty things (like those capes and that hat!)
It all depends on where you go. If you’re traveling in the winter a lovely coat is still possible because you wouldn’t need to pack it away in your suitcase. You’d be wearing it 🙂
