Wish Hoka made the list. I wear them 99% of the time I have shoes on. So very comfortable!
As a 42 year lad with plantar fasciitis hiatis and a weird weak ankle, I bought the Brooks Adrenaline for an upcoming trip to England and Italy. Saving this list for the boots for the upcoming winter!
It seems like every trip to Europe I’ve always had some sort of foot/shoe issue. I’m hoping with all these wonderful options my next trip will be foot pain free!
As a 42 year old mom of 2 with plantar fasciitis since my pregnancies, I’m excited to have this list! Glad to see the Brooks Adrenaline here as I bought them for an upcoming Europe trip. Saving this post for purchasing winter boots!
I love your articles. I may have never found out about some of my now favorite shoes brands (such as Vionic, Blondo and Frankie4) had I not read your blog.
I wanted to love the Skecher Go Walk Joys, and, although the footbed is like walking on clouds, the heel is just too loose on my foot. I ordered heel inserts, but that didn’t even help. I will be trying to find an alternative for my cruise next April in Europe! Thank you for this account—I learn something EVERY day!
Very informative article. I’m glad to see if I go to Skechers are on the list.
Naot is my shoe / sandal of choice for travel & my “mature” feet. They fit securely on my foot & never any blisters. I love how they mold to my foot for cushion & comfort. I choose the non – slip sole and I like that I can dress them up or down! They are worth every penny spent on a well made shoe. Thank you TFG for the valuable information you provide for all your readers!
Thank you so much for all your recommendations. Your site is so helpful when planning trips.
Hi, After reading your section on shoes, I purchased the Skechers Go Walk Joy Slip On Sneakers for our upcoming Seine River Cruise and have been wearing them — most comfortable walking shoe. I just ordered another pair in black!!! Love this site and all the information. We went to Italy last fall and this site was so helpful in so many ways. Thank you.
I love seeing all the recommendations for comfortable shoes. I have the keen short boots you recommended.
This is by far the biggest stress point of all of my packing. I’m still looking for another boot that can really cushion my joints for hours of walking but look good even for business meetings. NAOT is my go-to brand but as my joints get worse the cork insoles aren’t really quite enough. Not sure anyone will ever solve this problem entirely but I’ll keep watching to see as new options get recommended.
I just returned from a 2 week trip to the British Isles, Netherlands, Belgium, and France. I walked A LOT!!! I have worn Merrills, Sketchers Fresh Foam, and others in the past. However, this 66 1/2 year old walked many miles in On Cloud Cloudwalkers this trip! I found that merino “toe” socks (like gloves for your feet) added comfort even in very warm temperatures! My OC shoes did not fail me! I now own 3 pair of Ons. Highly recommend you size up a 1/2 size and try with variety of sock types BEFORE your next trip.
I would like to add Ryka to the list- great sneakers, super comfortable, variety of widths /styles and reasonably priced.
Disappointed that there are so few narrow shoes in the list.
Hi Marilyn, if you’re searching for narrow shoes this is the article for you!
https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/womens-narrow-shoes/
Very informative article. I’m glad to see if I go to Skechers are on the list.
I am always looking for comfort shoe recommendations & have great luck with Keene & Merrell – especially the waterpoof versions. Since I have a small shoe size, I can sometimes find the cheaper youth sized keenes which are often cheaper.
I wear orthotics but don’t always need them – but have to with my beloved Doc Martens which forces me to rethink my packing.
I was looking for some good shoes which I can gift to my mom on her birthday and when I found this blog. After reading style tips and everything I bought jambu shoes and she loved it. it’s been 3 months and she never forgets to wear them evrey time she steps out of home.
Thanks a lot Alex.
That is so amazing, we are so pleased we were able to help your mom!!! ?
This is great.
Thank you Jennifer!!! ?
I liked that a lot of these shoes were offered in wide sizing. Some are not available because its been a while since the article was written…but I appreciate being steered toward some other brands that might work well for me. My Mom wore high heels everywhere into her 60’s….but I can’t!

You have left off an extremely note worthy brand, Ecco. They have been my go to shoe in every category for the last 10 years. Check them out. Bett Peterson Peterson
Great suggestions for good shoes at any age.. kind of surprised the Ecco Yucatán and all Noat shoes weren’t rated high. I have worn both for years and avoided a recurrence of plantar Fasciitis! Not a fan of Toms’s Though. No support at all.
Hi Sophie, so glad you enjoyed the article! Thank you for sharing your comfy shoe recommendations with us, always love reading about our readers favorite products! Happy travels ?
Thanks for your well researched articles. I appreciate this one on mature walkers and comfortable brands. I am nearing 60 and having worn high heels all of my life I now am in orthotics and paying the price! I am wearing some of the brands mentioned. Back in the day all I would pack were high heels, times change and so do feet! The ankle boots I wear now are wedges. They are so comfortable and go with anything. Some have fringes on the sides or a little fur trim on the top. Headed to L.A. in a few weeks so I have already packed SAS sandles, Clarks, and white sneakers. Thanks girl. I am signing up for newsletter.
Hi Laura, thank you so much for your comment, I am so glad you enjoyed the article!! They defiantly do, but pleased do you hear you like the recommended shoes mentioned in the article!! Your ankle boots sound awesome and very stylish!! Have a fantastic trip to LA!! 🙂
I am an over – 60 Travel Fashion Girl who still likes to look stylish. My style is casual chic. I do look for cute shoes with good arch support for walking all day. (I don’t want old lady shoes!!!) In my travels, I have averaged 10 miles a day of walking so I really need good shoes. Also, more tops with sleeves and less clingy dresses. I have used some of your dress recommendations that will work for someone my age like a black long-sleeved swing dress that I can dress up or down with scarves and jewelry. Every time I travel, I try to take less (per travel fashion girl’s advice). It makes for a much more pleasurable trip and also leaves room for purchasing clothes wherever I am, which is fun. Thanks for your great recommendations!
Hi Carol, thank you so much for your lovely comment, so happy you have found TFG’s recommendations useful!! Have an amazing time on your next trip!! 🙂
Finding comfortable traveling shoes is not difficult, but finding stylish one is, and specially is old age it becomes necessary.
Hi Jane, thank you for your comment! 🙂
I love this site! And my feet along with some other parts have changed from when I traveled in my 40’s to now in my 60’s. This is just a fact. I swear by Clark cloud steppers. Sandals, boots, and shoes – they do wonders for my feet which are in rough shape but as long as I have decent, but pricy shoes I can continue to travel and walk.
Hi Ty, thank you so much for your comment, so glad you love the blog!! Thank you for sharing your travel shoe recommendations with us! 🙂
Living in a neighborhood with high traffic. I’m 76 and sometimes I will walk for 1-2 miles rather than sit in a car thru 2 red lights. And when I need fancy shoes to walk in for a wedding example. I need very comfortable shoes. On a suggestion from a friend I bought munro shoes for ladies the name Cindi It’s the most comfortable fancy walking shoes I have ever walked in I have narrow feet. and it fits me well. The only problem is its price. I’m including a link to see which shoes. munroshoes.com/products/CINDI/M207487 Zappos alsosells them for $185
Hi Sara, thank you for taking the time to share with me your recommendation for travel shoes! 🙂
Having had plantar fasciitis I now have orthotics, but didn’t need them when wearing Naot shoes and sandals with replaceable footbeds. Sadly Naots aren’t what they used to be, but I discovered Abeo brand in the U.S. recently that provide good arch support – hope they come to Canada!
Hi Heather, thank you so much for your comment!
I have had several pair of fit flops and think they are the most comfortable sandals ever. But I have fallen so many times when I’m wearing them, even when I’m walking in the house. You are only safe on completely flat surfaces. I will not wear them anymore and have heard the same from friends. I wish they could fix this.
I have narrow feet and need a narrow or AA. There are so few shoes manufacturers that make them anymore, especially pretty ones. I’m 68 but still like a fashionable look in a shoe! Why don’t companies take care of us? :(.
We’re keeping an eye on the best narrow feet shoe options, stay tuned!
Please, if you can suggest a flat leather shoe with orthotics and a narrow foot I would be extremely happy.
Hi Anita, thank you for your question! Have a look at this post for some ideas for ballet flats: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/10-cute-and-comfortable-ballet-flats-for-travel/ Hope you find some shoes you find comfortable!! 🙂
Thanks so much for this list! Now that I am retired, I plan on going everywhere!
I hate to wear sports shoes ever – I search for pretty comfort! I live in sandals (when I just HAVE to wear shoes at all) at home. My travel go-tos are Teva and Keen for walking sandals. Comfy and stylish. For colder climes, I love SAS loafers. Clarks makes great shoes in both categories. And Zappos is a girl’s best friend.
Great choices Pearl!
Loved your article…..very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks Debby!
Please look into comfort shoes for wide wide and large feet. Would love the help.
Hi Kathleen, if you are looking for shoes for wide feet, check out this article for our readers recommendations: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/cute-shoes-for-wide-feet/ Hope this helps! ?
I appreciate your list and would love to be able to wear most of the shoes you’ve chosen. My issue is finding women’s wide/extra-wide sizes without having to resort to ugly orthopedic style shoes. I’ve searched high and low, even tried men’s shoes, but though they have the extra width, don’t fit right. I always end up with my clunky New Balance sneakers, definitely not stylish, but tolerable. Any ideas for my dilemma?
This sounds like a good idea for an article I’ll get some feedback from the travelers at the TFG Facebook Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/travelfashiongirls It’s free to join!
Hi Theresa, we’re working on putting together a blog post on this subject, Stay tuned!
Keens work well for my wide feet. I wear the Voyageur hiking shoes and their sandals. Some of their other shoes run a little more narrow, but these have a wide toe box.
Well, I’m not quit 60, but your recommendations are spot on for anyone who wants to be comfortable on vacation! You offer some great stylish options, like Toms, but I often go for comfort over style, especially if we plan to walk a lot. Also I try to carry shoes that are versatile so I don’t have to carry 4 or 5 pairs! Merrells are a great option and comfy – some are cute with shorts, skirts, sundresses, etc. Thanks for all of your suggestions!
Happy to help Vicky! Glad you’ve found things that work for you!
Thanks for reading Sonja!
Great recommendations – I would add Katmandu hikers as well which have successfully borne me to The Himalayas, S.America and Africa. My Sketchers were also great on my latter trip for those shorter flat walks
Thanks for the addition Kay! Love getting tips from our readers!
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I just love your website but find my needs as a 63 year old avid traveler can be a bit different than the needs of a 20 or 30 something. The shoes in this article are perfect. I hope you will include more articles on clothing and travel beauty for those of us more “mature” travelers!
Thanks so much for reading Cathy! I appreciate your feedback and we hope to incorporate a variety of content moving forward! Keep on the lookout! Happy travels!
Great post! I usually pack a comfortable pair of running shoes, Ecco sandals, and a pair of comfortable dressier shoes for evenings. For me, comfort is key and style comes second.
Thanks for your comment Karen, couldn’t agree more that comfort is the most important thing when planning what to wear on a trip! Happy travels!
Found this blog useful. I might be interested in one of these for my next travel experience.
Thanks for reading Lisa and for your kind words. Glad we could offer some valuable travel fashion insight! Safe travels!
This could easily be an article for over 40, too! I just turned 40 this year and having shoes that are made for feet and not just for fashion is a blessing when traveling! I’ve become a big fan of Merrell – you list them in your boot section, but they have fashionable and supportive sandals, too! Clarks are always a no-brainer and I’ve been wearing Birks since high school! =D Thanks for sharing some brands that I was not familiar with… I will have to look into them!
I totally agree Danielle 🙂 These shoes are great for all female travelers, they just happened to be the most popular for our over 60 readers 🙂
Finding shoes that are comfortable in many situations, are supportive and lightweight, good for walking miles and miles, good for wet or dry weather, are attractive and that go with casual or dressy clothes can be a challenge. I need more support in my shoes than I did 20 or 30 years ago. With so many choices available, I appreciate seeing what shoes work well for other travelling women. One suggestion for dressier shoes — I love my Fly London Piats with pants or dresses. They are comfortable for wearing all day and light walking and have a little bit of funky style appropriate for 55+.
I’m glad you found it useful 🙂 Thanks for the tip on dressier shoes!
I like a shoe with support. Never a flip flop for city walking. So easy to turn an ankle on uneven cobble stones or a step off a high curb. I never wear sneakers in European cities, you look so out of place, say tourist!
Light weight and packable, Merrell, Clarks , Reiker.
Thanks for the input Pat and thanks for reading! Great brand suggestions! Happy travels!
Seriously????? This article is insulting. I wear the same shoes as any other woman of any age for travel or for any event. Stop this ageism!
Hi Susan, all of our articles are based on requests made by our readers and many women do want age focused advice especially as it pertains to the “mature” traveler (to quote them). We write the tips we’re asked to provide and don’t mean to insult anyone with our content.
I don’t know about you but I can’t wear the shoes today that I used to wear in my 20’s or 30’s. Walk all day in flip flops? Thin soled sandals? No way. I need comfort and support. I appreciate that this blog understands that with age many people’s needs change too. I’m 61 and I love traveling. My needs have changed over time.
I’m glad you found it useful Sharon 🙂 These were top picks from other female travelers over 60 and I think they have some great choices!
Consider yourself lucky, Susan. It’s not ageism to offer choices to people who may be suffering from arthritis, or other issues, after 60+ years of life.
I’d like to put in a word for Oka-B sandals. They’re lightweight, work as flip-flops by the pool, but are cute enough for evening.
Thank you Amy, glad you appreciate the content! We like to listen to our readers and provide the content they request! Great recommendation! Thank you!
Thanks for acknowledging your more er, “mature” readers. Yes, the feet now demand support and comfort(a trip to Paris when I was about 50 wearing cute sandals with no cushioning resulted in six months of painful tendinitis, lesson learned) but I still want to travel with some style. I like all these and swear by my “Wonder sandals”. I just bought some really cute new platform Tevas and will be trying them out on short day trips.
Hi Penelope, we’re happy you enjoyed the content! The readers ask, we listen, and we do our best to provide you the best tips 🙂
