Encircled Kimono Convertible Dress
ADVERTORIAL
Female travelers love convertible dresses for their adventures. These dresses offer various looks in a single garment, helping them in their never-ending quest to pack lighter.
While many companies strive to reinvent the popular convertible dress style (one strap, various ways) it’s rare to see a completely new design…
…which is why we’re excited to tell you all about a new product from Encircled!
Wearing Encircled’s Chrysalis Cardi dress in Isla Holbox, Mexico
Encircled is a Canadian company that specializes in stylish versatile garments for travel and everyday wear. You already know them for their popular Chrysalis Cardi dress. (Read my review here.)
And now we’re introducing to you their latest and greatest design: the Retrograde Kimono Dress, an item that is nothing like what you’ve become accustomed to seeing as a “convertible dress”.
The Retrograde Kimono is completely reversible and can be worn as either a Kimono layering piece or as a dress. It can be worn to show the zipper at the front or back.
The flowing fabric and shape of the dress mean it would work great on women of all shapes and sizes.
This incredibly unique convertible dress can be worn several ways, including:
- Frontwards, backwards, or as a layering piece.
- Open, cardigan style, as a dress, or a long oversized shirt.
- Dressed it up or down, depending on accessories.
It’s made out of earth-friendly MicroModal fabric knitted in Toronto, Canada (using fairly-paid labor) accented with vegan leather accent panels. The fabric is sustainable and uses low impact dyes and renewable resources to create.
Both color options (the black and the smoke) are pretty neutral, so they easily complement the rest of your suitcase. The fabric is opaque, but lightweight enough to wear every season of the year.
Luxuriously soft, this eco-conscious piece is made to wash and wear well. You’ll feel like you have your favorite well-worn vintage tee against your skin!
It also features a lightweight, full-length gunmetal zipper with a rectangular pull and smooth finishes on all major seams, including the neckline and the full length of the zipper. The results is a comfortable fit, and no scratchy seams against your skin.
I love how they’ve infused these statement details into a practical yet stylish design, making it an easy-to-wear piece abroad and at home, too!
This piece would be a great addition to a travel wardrobe for a city trip. Whether you’re traveling to Sydney, London, or New York, this shift dress would blend in easily with the local look.
A t-shirt dress is always a classic and never goes out of style. Pair it with ballet flats for spring, gladiators for summer, and ankle boots for fall. You can even wear it with all those shoes on the same trip allowing for fluctuations in the weather and the activities in your itinerary.
For warm weather you could throw on a cute hat, a long necklace (or two), and possibly even a belt. For a mild winter dress, flip the dress around to feature the leather detail and layer over a long sleeve top, tights, and riding boots.
For transitional seasons, wear as a kimono (unzipped in the front) and layer over:
- tunic tee and leggings
- sleevless tee and jeans
- strappy top and shorts
- basic, fitted dress
- slip dress
Don’t forget to add a colorful scarf on top to create some interest!
The Retrograde Kimono Dress is Encircled’s take on the “Retrograde Cycle” of the planets. Any object in a retrograde flow means apparent motion in reverse from its normal patterns.
Likewise, wear this dress forwards or backwards, or zipped or unzipped with many versatile ways to style. Retrograde cycles are very rare, and like this unique dress, when you come by it–the moment strikes you.
this is my fave look!

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and am wearing it constantly. The only way it could be more perfect is if it had a pocket!
That’s awesome!
I have been eyeing this exact piece (including some of their others)! Wonder how it would fit on someone who has a more fuller and curvy figure (like myself :). Would be nice to see it modeled on someone heavier set as well to get an idea on how it sits on a variety of body types. Appreciate the $20 off code!
Hi Natalia, the images are from the Encircled website take a look as they offer various styling tips there ?
I like the style of this as a dress! But it seems a weee bit pricey for what it is. I’m glad I saw this post, though, because the Chrysalis cardi post you linked to looks even more versatile and amazing! AND less expensive! I’m hoping that one gets restock in my size because I might need to invest in one!
Glad you like it Tiffany ?
I really like this kimono convertible dress! There’s so many ways to wear and accessorize it! I love the looks you showed. Really cute outfits!
Thanks Becky!
