Spring Trends 2016

Written By: Niki Landry

Every season fashion styles change. Sometimes ideas are pulled from decades past, refining designs from the year before, and introducing new takes on classic pieces. Over the last year, fashion has had a decidedly 1970’s look.

The material, embellishments, patterns, and construction all hark back to that era. The spring trends 2016 seem to be in keeping with that idea, along with some other easy to wear classic clothing items. Here’s how to use them in your travel wardrobe this season!

 Plaid

Courier Shirtdress / Lightweight Check Shirt

Plaid spans all seasons, but spring allows for lighter and brighter colors, breezy fabrics, and gingham. It is one of a few patterns that I personally bring on trips (the other two being stripes and dots).

It’s a simple and versatile pattern that can be styled so many ways. Preppy, feminine, sporty, menswear inspired, western, and the list goes on. I never tire of my collared plaid shirts, and I like that most hide stains well. Perfect for dusty messy travel days.

Here are some tips on mixing prints and patterns!

 Block Heels

Alpassa Sandals / Delilah Fringe Sandals

If you must pack heels for travel, then block heels are the way to go. Although they take up more space in your bag than stilettos (not much more) they are infinitely more comfy and easier to wear, especially when walking with heels on cobblestone streets.

I love the low stacked heels to add a feminine touch to simple outfits, but are still practical for lots of occasions. Perfectly fashionable footwear for resorts, museums, or dinners while on vacation.

Here are some tips on how to choose the most versatile shoes for travel!

 Wide Leg

Wide Leg Trouser / Chambray Culottes / Halter Culottes Jumpsuit

If you are tired of wearing skinny jeans, you are in luck! Thighs can breathe a little better now that wide leg bottoms are popular again.

I’m on the hunt for the perfect fitting denim pair to add to my wardrobe. I won’t be giving up my skinnies anytime soon, but I’m embracing the change.

I wouldn’t pack a wide leg jean for long term trips just because I don’t find them as versatile (I prefer to wear them with at least a little heel), but for weekends away they are a great option.

Culottes are another hit for spring trends 2016. I’m a little hesitant to try this one out for myself, but when perfectly styled they can look so chic. I’ve been eyeing the jumpsuit above, and may have to take the plunge.

When opting for a super trendy item like this, it’s best to keep the price point low. This style isn’t going to be around forever so don’t invest a lot of money.

 Flat Mules

Garnett Pointed-Toe Mules / Leather Mules

Flats continue to reign this season! The heeled mule booties for fall/winter have transitioned into spring trends 2016 as simple flat footwear.

Comfortable, easy to wear, and perfect for travel. The slip on style is great for destinations that involve frequent removal of shoes, but are much more chic than flip-flop sandals. The loafer mule is a nice upgrade to the typical style loafer, because you don’t have to worry about the back rubbing against your heel.

Jean Skirts

Chambray Shirttail Pencil Skirt / Denim Pencil Skirt / Shift Skirt

Everyone’s favorite bottom, denim, is popular again as a skirt. The most versatile material for travel, a denim skirt makes it easy to feel pulled together while on the road.

Nice for hot humid destinations where pants may be too heavy, a jean skirt will keep you cool and is more feminine than denim shorts.

For an extra light option, choose a chambray skirt!
