Basic but elegant bathing suit
To me, nothing says beach-side glamour like a Ruched Halter one-piece. I adore this version from J Crew:
Prefer a two-piece? You can never go wrong with J Crew’s mix-and-match styles. I like the Twist Bandeau Bikini Top and matching bikini bottoms:
If it isn’t already clear, I am a huge fan of J Crew swimwear: it is well cut, flattering and comfortable, and lasts longer than any other brand I’ve owned.
Sarongs are great for travel because they are lightweight and versatile- you can use it as a cover-up, shawl, dress, and even a towel in a pinch!Me being me, I like this solid black option, though there are many fun print options on Amazon as well.
Take a look at our favorite ways to use beach sarong wraps!
Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun, sand, and glare of the water and there are so many fun and stylish options to choose from. My favorite style will always be the classic oversized, but retro and aviator styles are also great for the beach. Here are some examples:
- Marc by Marc Jacobs Ombre Oversized Sunglasses in Black, $110.
- Toms Adeline glasses in Sea Glass Champagne, $119.
- Warby Parker Dempsey polarized aviator sunglasses in Riesling, $145. Unfortunately they only ship to US addresses.
Foldable Sun Hat
Hats are a stylish way to protect yourself from the sun, but they are often difficult to pack. Solution: packable hats that don’t lose their shape!
- Packable Straw Fedora with bow detail, from Kate Spade, $88.
- Hats In the Belfry also has many different crushable/foldable styles. This classic Straw Braid Swinger Hat is perfect for the beach, $29.
Pack a simple dress that works for both day and night. This Croswrap Dress from Amadi, $138 great for a day of shopping. Then add earrings or a necklace, and voila! Ready for dinner.
Strappy, Simple Sandals
The ideal sandals are ones relaxed enough for a day at the beach, but dressy enough for dinner. I’m currently lusting for this Dolce Vita option in Coral, $79.95.

Fun Beach Tote
When packing for Europe in summer, make sure to bring a colorful tote that is lightweight, yet roomy enough to hold all your beach essentials. This canvas Bathing Beauties Tote, $18 is adorable and easy to pack.
Alternatively, bring a tote that can double as a beach bag and as a purse, like this one from olivia + joy, $102.
Now, throw in some sunscreen, a book, your camera and you’re done!
