The Ultimate Round the World Travel Packing List

THE ULTIMATE ROUND THE WORLD PACKING LIST FOR GIRLS

I wanted to make a quick and easy RTW packing list visual for girls preparing for a Round the World trip. This 15 piece packing list can be used for trips of varied duration and climate.  Use the items shown as a visual guide to create your own perfect travel wardrobe.

OPTION 1:

Round the World Packing List Spring 2013
Want to shop the items shown in the OPTION 1 RTW packing list? Click here.

OPTION 2:

Round the World Packing Tips:

Your main backpack should be between 40L-66L maximum and your daypack 15L-25L

Use packing cubes to maximize space and organize belongings

Don’t take full size toiletries, buy replacements along the way

Avoid too many electronics

Don’t pack “just in case” items

Stick to 3 pairs of shoes

Pack 5-10 pairs of underwear

Don’t buy to many “travel clothing” items, stick to stuff you would normally wear at home

Pack items based on your planned activities more so than other people’s packing list suggestions ;-)

TFG recommends: To find out about how to book a round the world ticket, check out Airtreks.com. I used them for my RTW and they were absolutely helpful from beginning to end. RTW tickets are more flexible than regular flights and are also really cost effective if you have a set itinerary in mind.
Don’t forget to re-post, share, and pin this post if you found this RTW packing list helpful! Share it with other Travel Fashion Girls like you :-)

Is there a link so you can shop the items shown in Option Two? I love this site, but it would be great if you could cite all your sources of clothing so people can really take advantage of your tips!

Thanks Lindsey! I started citing them the past few months but still need to update all the lists created in 2012. Is there anything in particular you'd like to know? Thanks!

I love the ideas you give to travel! Especially since you consider the size of the luggage we'll be carrying. I'll be traveling around EUrope for 2 months this summer and and I was going crazy trying to narrow down the clothes I desperately want to bring. But your lists make me realize maybe I don't need as many tops as I thought...After this, I may be able to leave a couple of items behind...!

That's awesome! I'm very happy you found the lists helpful. Overpacking in Europe is not fun, trust me, I did it 6 years ago and never again. It's so much more enjoyable when you're not lugging around a million things. I hope you have an amazing time! :-)

Could you tell me where that bag is from? I have been looking for one just like it. This whole list is great, very helpful, thanks!

Great list. I'm just curious. What's the theory behind only three pairs of socks? I say this as someone who is about to travel to a place that weather wise, probably isn't quite ready for sandals.
    • alex Friday - 12 / 04 / 2013 Reply
haha good question. everyone seems to all agree on the same number, not sure why. Maybe because they're small and easy to wash like 5 underwear? I used to pack 5 socks but found I never used them. So I went from 3 to 2 but will pack 4 if I know I'm going on a big trek :-)

Hi...I'm so glad I found this blog, actually I don't travel abroad so much, but only out of town (still in the country) and I love hanging out with my friends every weekend. Could you please help me to be still in fashion although only with basic clothes? (For your information, I live in asia (indonesia), in the tropical season). Thank you. Xoxo, ike.

Thanks so much for all your tips! The website is fantastic and just what I've been looking for. I going traveling around South America with my fantastic boyfriend for 4 months in March 2013. Am so excited about the trip but the packing aspect is giving me a headache. We are planning on visiting many different places with different temperatures - chilly in Patagonia, hiking in Peru, hot and humid in the Amazon and sightseeing in the cities and markets. I think I have the 'technical' clothing sorted - hiking boots, waterproof, Diwn jacket as I feel the cold, its the more fun clothes I'm stressing about. Am so inspired by your sight and want to pack light but still look great. Help! Any tips for looking good in a varied climate x

Hi Kirstie Thank you for your kinda words :-) It sounds like you have an amazing trip planned! This RTW packing list is the perfect list for varied climates! You have a little bit of everything including JEANS - a must for South America! One item that many girls were missing when I was there was a party dress or going out outfit - it doesn't have to be too dressy but it's always good to have at least one go to outfit especially for somewhere like Cusco where you'll want to soothe your sore muscles after the Inca Trail. This trek I really do recommend proper travel pants. I actually got stuck in a mud slide two years ago but my pants were dry the very next day which was a relief! This is a packing list for "Safari in Africa" but it's also very similar to what you'd need in South America: http://travelfashiongirl.com/safari-clothing-packing-list/ I've got another post coming up soon that will be perfect for you too. Will link it when I publish it :-) Thanks again for your comment!

The hardest part for me is that I almost always want to take my whole closet with me! I have waaaayyy too many clothes, and although I've learned how to pack light for the most part, I still find moments wherein I wish I brought this or that. It'll always be a learning process for me!
    • alex Sunday - 07 / 10 / 2012 Reply
are there any items that you find yourself taking again and again because they're very useful? thanks for commenting! :-)

First of all Alex, I don't know how I haven't found your site before, but I love it. There is nothing that gets me more excited about travel than packing for it and assembling fashionable pieces to hit the road. I really like this simplified list. I always bring a lot of tops when I travel as I think it can make you feel like you are not wearing the same thing everyday.
    • alex Monday - 01 / 10 / 2012 Reply
Hi Suzy, thank you! The website's still relatively new but i'm excited that travelers are responding well to it :-) That's true. Pants and shorts can stay the same all the time but it's nice to have varied looks with tops. Thanks for re-tweeting this post too!

This is such a great visual. I always overpack and needed the advice. Now if I can just reapply this to my closet...
    • alex Tuesday - 25 / 09 / 2012 Reply
Hi Juliann, thanks for commenting! I'm taking advantage of the fact that I no longer really have clothing at home and I plan to create a newer more intricately planned closet when and if I ever settle down somewhere. Not based on quantity - key basics with a few complementing items for each season ;-) Don't forget to sign up my newsletter, will be releasing my free e-book in the next 2 weeks with a complete packing list breakdown.

Lovely idea, just a little confused on your "3 bottoms" - I see 5 - 3 pants and two shorts. Are they an either/or type thing? Do the leggings not count? I'm also missing a bra in the image, I only see two. I do look forward to further explanations and matching combos though!
    • alex Tuesday - 25 / 09 / 2012 Reply
Hi Megan, Thanks for your feedback! Looks like a typo on my end :-) 3 bottoms should be 5. of course, all the items are open to interpretation: shorts can be long vs short, etc. as for the bras, I've also changed this to 2-3 since this varies a bit. My upcoming free e-book will have an extremely thorough breakdown for all items and tons of visuals! Don't forget to sign up for my newsletter :-)
